Make Your Walls Pop with Shiplap for only $40!

Shiplap is such a beautiful trend.  We have a small space in the butler’s pantry area that needed sprucing up. Shiplap was something I wanted to try for quite some time. Once I was I was able to get my husband on board, we headed to Lowes to look at our options. We ultimately decided to go with a shiplap kit although this was not the most cost-effective choice it fit our needs for such a small space.

Here’s What You’ll Need to get Started

Mark, your lines for the studs before you begin.

The shiplap kit came with 4 foot wide boards, and we needed to cover about 3 feet. So that made it pretty simple to make one cut.

We started at the top of the wall considering this would be the first place you would see as the coffee bar would be in front of the wall’s bottom portion.

We lined up the boards and cut them as we went because, unfortunately, the walls are not always straight. The kit was straightforward and easy to use as each board fit nicely into the next making the process go along pretty quick.

We did have two outlets on this wall that we used our jigsaw to cut out notches in the board. Honestly, it went pretty well, especially since this was my first attempt at using this particular power tool.

Once we made it to the bottom portion of the wall, we cut the last board lengthwise to fit the space. This allowed us to keep the current baseboard. After caulk and paint, the wall looks seamless.

The last thing we did was finish off the sides with shoe molding, also purchased from Lowes. This gave the wall a nice finished look.

Once everything was nailed into place, we caulked the holes and seams then added 2 coats of semi-gloss white paint to make everything look uniform.

We love the simple classic look of this little nook we frequent each morning. I found this picture at Hobby Lobby. I thought it was the perfect accent and a beautiful reminder of how we should approach each day.

We were able to finish this project in one weekend. This ended up being a very simple update for only about 40 dollars.
