While thrift shopping, I spotted this huge painting  24″X 30″. Guess what, it was only $3…. what!!  Well, of course I had to take it home with me:) We had just moved into our new home, and my daughter was moving into her tween years. She wanted a spot to display pictures of her friends and artwork. This seemed to be a perfect project for her space.

Materials

large thrift frame

fabric-(You don’t need much.)

paint- chalk or acrylic

paintbrushes

black or dark glaze

Cork roll

 Craft knife

Instructions

1. Clean your thrift find; go ahead and give it a good scrub! I would recommend a damp cloth. Allow time to dry.

2. Remove the backing from the painting. You may have to make a slit in the backing paper. You can do this with a craft knife.

3. Grab your favorite acrylic or chalk paint; now paint the outer frame. To give the frame a distressed look, add a dark glaze, follow the product’s instructions. Allow paint and glaze to dry.

4. Cover the removed frame with the cork roll. I bought one at Michael’s, but you can probably pick up one at any craft store or, of course, Amazon.

5. Using a staple gun, wrap the cork and secure it all the way around.

6. Repeat this process with your favorite fabric.

7. Place the insert back into your frame- if the insert has metal notches secure it back into place. If it does not, you made secure the backing with duck tape. No one is going to see the back anyway!

This is such a practical, inexpensive project that anyone can do. We were able to brighten up my daughter’s room with this fun pop of color.
