How to Hang REMOVABLE Peel and Stick Wallpaper
Peel and Stick Wallpaper Tutorial
Hi friends!
I’m so happy it is finally summer vacation. Teaching this year during a pandemic has definitely been one I will NEVER forget!
Now that I have a little more time, I have just finished a charming project in our foyer. For a while now, I have wanted more of a statement in our home’s entryway. Almost a year ago, we built two beautiful barn doors. I have been so pleased with how they turned out. Please check my blog post here for more info.
We built 2 barn doors for our dining room turned office.
I decided I needed something with more of a wow factor. Since the barn doors are so large and stark white, I opted to go with wallpaper. I know you are thinking, oh wow, what an undertaking. But, I’m here to tell you this is such an easy and pretty inexpensive update with such a dramatic effect. Guess what it is also REMOVABLE!
Here’s another way to make a statement!
After searching what seems like forever on Amazon, Pinterest, Wayfair, and browsing Google, I finally found something so perfect for my space. The product I opted for is a peel-and-stick wallpaper with subtle color and a pretty design. I actually purchased this one from Amazon but there are so many beautiful options out there! I have to admit I have had a little experience with this before. When making over my home office during quarantine, I used wallpaper as my backdrop in a fun brick print, and it turned out so nicely. I have added that project here as well below.
Getting Started
- Clean your wall and make sure you are working with a smooth surface. Any defects may show through depending on the print you choose.
Tools Required
Tape Measure~Level~Steel Ruler or Straight Edge ~Razor Knife~Pencil~Plastic Smoother or Credit Card
Instructions
- Pre-cut the strips to wall height; make sure to allow about an inch at the top and bottom.
- Beginning with the left side of the wall, measure out the width of your paper. Using a pencil, mark the wall lightly with your level and draw a straight line. It is vital to get the first roll of the paper straight as all others will follow this design.
- Start with peeling about a foot of the paper with an inch overlapping the ceiling, which will be cut off later. Working from top to bottom, pull the backing away and press the wallpaper evenly a few inches at a time.
- Using a credit card or your hand, which is what I primarily used, work your way down, smoothing out any air bubbles as you go.
- Trim all of your excess material at the top and bottom. Then repeat this process while lining up the pattern each time.
This project took me about 3 days to complete. This was mostly due to running out of wallpaper. I would say the toughest part was lining up your pattern and cutting around any edges that aren’t 100% straight as this made for a tedious few minutes each time. Overall I would say that this was a fairly easy project that most people could tackle. This definitely made a beautiful statement in our entryway and I would say I would do it all again!
